“Having just returned from a super intense two day, three session recording (August 27 & 28, 2015) with Spiritual Master, guitar genius Bhapuji Tisziji Muñoz, my spirit is flying and my vision of mission far more clear. The musicians participating at various points over the two days were John Medeski (Lam Sobo) on piano, George Koller, John Benitez and Don Pate (Yaka Longshin) on bass, Tony Falco (Sadhu Bhav) and myself on drums as well as Adam Benham (Vija Mu) on percussion.

“So the challenge at this recording was to respond to the spirit of Coltrane, without being imitative or looking back. I know that to play effectively with Tisziji, it is imperative that one be 100% in the Now. A few of Trane’s compositions were played, most reverently by Lam Sobo on piano. I remember Alabama, Ogunde, Lonnie’s Lament and an improvisation based on the changes of Wise One. These beautiful pieces set a tone of prayer and gratitude. They were a great springboard for Tisziji’s cataclysmic Heart Fire Storm sonic meditations. Like Coltrane, Tisziji has the presence and wisdom to elicit the highest, deepest Spirit core reality from the musicians present. It was beautiful to witness these strong players so joyous and grateful to be in the presence of a truly selfless free-master.

“As for the music, when I play with Bhapu I get so far out of the mind and body, it’s impossible to remember the specifics of what was played. What I do remember is the feeling of elation, as if flying untethered through a radiant unknowable dimension of light, levity and love. The sound of two drummers and two bassists created (with piano) a multifarious maelstrom of wide-open rolling melodic rhythms. Bhapuji’s absolutely unique laser beam of love Heart-Fire Sound guitar soaring over this symphony of drumming, transmitting a message of fierce peace and liberation, is to me a vision of Heaven on Earth. I feel the deepest gratitude to be part of and a witness to this majestic masterwork of Spiritual transcendence through sound. I can think of no higher calling in life than to be at service to Tisziji’s mission of Spiritual healing through sound, word and being. I can’t wait to hear this recording when it’s done. Thank you, Bhapu. Love Always, Hu.” —Ra Kalam Bob Moses (September 5, 2015)

“Thank you John Coltrane for staying the course and keeping it completely real, as we all must do! May you rest in great peace!” —Tisziji Muñoz
